En Diciembre 2015 tenía previsto inaugurar
una exposición en Ibiza en Can Tixedó
Mi amiga y artista Amanda Orlov se ofreció
para hacer una performance en la apertura. Le conté la idea que lleva años
dentro de mi y que quizás podríamos representar. Ella se especializa en una
especie de danza butoh, de su propia creación.
Yo tenía la idea de trabajar en mis
siguientes cuadros con los tejidos naturales de las hojas del higo chumbo. Es
una fibra que me parece realmente preciosa. Al proponer la idea de la
performance , visualicé que se movería en un traje hecho de esta fibra.
Decidimos ir recolectando estas y otras fibras naturales para luego crearle un
traje con lo que encontráramos.
Poco después estaba con unas amigas en las
rocas de la costa de Ibiza un día de sol después de un temporal otoñal. El mar
trae muchas cosas, y entre ellas me encontré con una parte de la raíz de una
pitrera. La visualicé en la cabeza de Amanda si la conseguía vaciar. Me la llevé
y en nuestro próximo encuentro trajimos las cosas que casa una había encontrado
y al vaciarlo, encontramos que le iba como anillo al dedo.
In December 2015 I had planned an
exhibition of my latest works in Can Tixedó. My dear friend and artist Amanda
Orlov offered to do a performance at the opening. I brought up the idea I work
on and have in me for years and thought there might be a way we can use it for
the performance. She specializes in a kind of Butoh dance, of her own nature
and creation.
I had the idea that in my next paintings I
would work with the natural fibres of the cactus prickly pear trunks. It dries
into beautiful shapes. I could then visualise her moving in a clothing made
with them. So we went looking for these fibres and others to try to build it.
Shortly after this meeting I was on the
coast of Ibiza, enjoying a sunny afternoon after a few days of storms. The sea
washes up many interesting objects and I found and amazing object I felt would
work nicely to dress Amanda. It was a part of the route of a Pitrera (cactus
plant that grows in Ibiza). I visualised it on her head as it was hollow inside
and looked like it might fit. I took it back to the studio and in our next
meeting we brought together what each one of us had found and it was one of the
things we did end up using.

Durante las próximas sesiones estuvimos
tiñendo y fortaleciendo las fibras con cola y pintura blanca.
Otras sesión en la que estuvimos cosiendo
las piezas e ideando el complicado diseño para poderlo poner y quitar. Moverse
en esa armadura no era cosa fácil.
Encontramos la música perfecta para esta
performance, la de “Eleven Questions” de Markus Reuter y Robert Rich.
During the next meetings we worked on
strengthening the fibres with glue and dying it into a bone colour. Then we
worked on the sewing of these pieces and building this complicated piece of
clothing in a way it could be put on or taken off easily and worked around the
difficulty of moving in it.
We
also found the perfect music for this in the CD “Eleven Questions” by Markus
Reuter and Robert Rich.

La noche de la exposición la performance
creó un espacio interesante dentro de la exposición, donde yo sentí que algo de
lo que hay bien cosido en mis cuadros salió a moverse entre las personas e
interaccionar con un público atento. Yo lo sentí como algo visceral. Las
entrañas de los cuadros encontraron otra vía de expresión en mi amiga y
compañera de espíritu Amanda. Ese subconsciente que habla a través del azar en
mis cuadros, que yo no controlo, encuentra su canal a través del movimiento y
las manifestaciones físicas de la danza.
The night of the opening the performance
created an interesting space in the exhibition, where I felt that something
that is deeply woven into my paintings came out to move in between the people
and interacted with them. I felt it quite visceral. The guts of my paintings
found another form of expression in my friend in spirit. The subconscious that
speaks through random shapes in my paintings, that I try to not control found a
way to manifest itself physically though dance.
